On International Humanitarian Aid
Statement by Danylo Lubkivsky,
Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine
Kyiv, 23 June 2015
Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, members of the Ukrainian Government and the senior officials of the Security Service of Ukraine and State Emergency Service of Ukraine met today with the representatives of the international humanitarian organizations.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Programs in Ukraine, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Office of Humanitarian Aid of the European Commission, the delegation of “Doctors without Borders”, “Caritas Ukraine” and other participants.
The Government of Ukraine confirms its strong political will to support and rescue all our citizens whose lives and security are under threat as a result of Russian aggression.
Russian aggressors are spreading blatant lies about the alleged humanitarian ban and embargo on the part of our country.
It is aggressive and cynical actions of Russia and its led terrorists that are causing a humanitarian disaster for the Ukrainian citizens.
The Government of Ukraine is focusing sufficient attention to solving existing humanitarian problems caused by the actions of the Russian aggressors.
To this end, at the meeting it was agreed on a number of practical actions:
- within the Security Service of Ukraine an official responsible for coordinating the passage of humanitarian aid will be appointed and will operate in direct coordination with the office of Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Ministry of Social Policy;
- for humanitarian goods the regime of "green corridor" will be set at certain points of access;
- Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk gave orders to optimize and simplify procedures for approvals necessary for delivery of the humanitarian goods in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation.
The assistance must be provided quickly and the easiest way possible, while providing a qualitative control according to reasonable and civilized procedures.
Following the results of the meeting it was agreed on establishing a permanent mechanism of interaction between the leadership of the Government and international humanitarian organizations.
