According to the results of the 1st quarter of 2021, the total trade turnover between Ukraine and France amounted to 753.5 mln USD (+17.2% versus the same period of 2020). The growth was due to the significant increase of Ukrainian export of goods and services by 40.7% while French import grew slightly by 9.5% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Besides, there is a permanent positive trend concerning Ukrainian export of IT services which has increased by +31.1%. The foreign trade balance is negative for Ukraine and is equal to -306.1 mln USD.
Main Ukrainian Goods Exports to France in the 1st quarter of 2021 were: fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin (23.7%), residues of the food industry (23.2%), ferrous metals (11.4%), wood and articles thereof (6.3%), electric machines (4.3%), edible fruits and nuts (4.1%).
According to the results of the 1st quarter of 2021, the significant growth of the Ukrainian goods exports by +52.6% was caused by an increase in supplies for almost all major commodity groups: (except edible fruits and nuts -20.2% as well as clothes and accessories for clothing, textiles-11.6%) ferrous metals (↑ in 4.2 times), electric machines (↑ in 2.5 times), fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin (↑ in 1.6 times), residues of the food industry (↑ in 1.4 times), reactors, boilers, machinery (↑ in 1.8 times), furniture (↑ in 1.7 times), etc.
Main French Goods Imports to Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2021 were: various chemical products (24.1%), land transport except railways (10.0%), pharmaceuticals (8.6%), cereals (7.5%), nuclear reactors, boilers and machinery (7,0%) and essential oils (6.8%). The increase in French imports by 1.5% was driven by a growth in the supply of major articles to the Ukrainian market, in particular: cereals (+36.9%), nuclear reactors, boilers and machinery (+41,6%), seeds and fruits of oilseeds (+55.7). However, at the same time there was a reverse trend with a decrease in imports of other goods: land transport except railways (-14.3%), pharmaceuticals (-32.2%), optical devices and apparatus (-21.4%).
As for the trade in services, the value of services provided by Ukraine to France amounted to 45.7 mln USD, which is +7.8% more compared to the corresponding period of 2020. The main items of Ukrainian Services Export to France were telecommunication services, computer and information services (49.5%, growth by +31.1%), transportation services (21.3%, drop by -6.2%), business services (20.6%, drop by -2.6%) and services for the processing of material resources (5.7%, drop by -10.5%).
French companies provide in Ukraine: financial services (68.3%), transportation services (12.4%), business services (6.9%), telecommunication services, computer and information services (4,8%), quarter and other services related to intellectual property (3,2%). In general, in the 1st quarter of 2021, the import of French services to Ukraine increased in 2.5 times to 145.8 mln. USD.
The balance of trade in services with France is negative (for the first time in many years) for Ukraine and equals to -26.5 mln. USD.
